About The Heritage Area
The Stories of the Chesapeake Heritage Area was begun in the late 1990s by a group of citizens and public officials seeking ways for Caroline, Kent, Queen Annes, and Talbot counties to enjoy the benefits of a new state heritage development program centered around special regions of the state. The heritage area is managed by Eastern Shore Heritage, Inc., a not-for-profit organization incorporated in 2000. The heritage area was recognized by the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority in 2001 and certified in 2005 following the creation of a regional management plan and its adoption by participating jurisdictions.
